Report: Wildcards Attempted to Negotiate Forfeits

A source close to the offices of WSL Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Bill McMahon has revealed that the Wildcards are charged with attempting to negotiate voluntary forfeits from opposing teams. Under the accusation, the Wildcards approached upcoming opponents with predetermined scores and less-than-projected run differentials.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity, the source revealed that several teams, including the All-Star Bums, Bears, and Beer Nuts came to the Commissioner's office to file a grievance. The Beer Nuts further complained that the Wildcards, after having the proposed score rejected, would tell the team "...not to complain. Lots of teams do this, it's not uncommon."

Because the accused offence supposedly did not take place, McMahon cannot reprimand the Wildcards through official avenues, such as loss of draft picks, suspensions, and fines. However, another source reported that Steve Saks of the Wildcards submitted an application for a position on the board of directors. If the accusation is proven true, one can be certain that Saks' application will not be taken into consideration, unless he provides - personally - pleasurable favours to the Commissioner and COO.

McMahon has not commented on the report publicly, as per WSL regulations. He recently tweeted, however, a vague and cryptic statement that could be related:

It is possible that the Commissioner and COO was making reference to the 1-0 shutout victory over the now defunct Colts 45. The 2006 win came after the Wildcards filed an official grievance with Mr. McMahon.

Possibly sensing a public backlash, McMahon immediately attempted to explain his previous comments, removing any association with the controversial 1-0 win.

Despite the Commissioner and COO's reluctance to comment on this rumour, one is taking this report seriously, and devoting all necessary resources to finding any evidence that would incriminate the Wildcards.

More to follow.
